Henna brows aftercare | Instructions & advice

Yaay, you just had a henna brow treatment, and your eyebrows are totally fleeky again. Of course, you want to keep this result for as long as possible. For that reason, I wrote this blog to give you tips on how to take care of your Henna Brows.

What is henna anyway?

Henna is a reddish-brown dye made from the powdered leaves of a tropical shrub used to color the hair and decorate the body.  It has been used for centuries. Henna has been mostly used to dye skin, hair, and fingernails. For Henna Brows, PPD is always added to the henna. PPD is a dye molecule. Which ensures that the Henna Brows stays better on hair and skin. Henna can last up to 2 weeks on the skin and 4 to 6 weeks on the eyebrow hairs.

Aftercare advice for Henna Brows.

1. Keep the eyebrows dry the first 24-48 hours.

It is important that after a Henna Brow treatment you keep your brows dry for at least 24 hours and if possible, even 48 hours. It is important that the  brow henna absorbs well into the skin and dries. When you wet your freshly applied Henna Brows you do not give the henna enough time to be absorbed into the skin and the stain will fade faster. The following activities are also not recommended for the first few days:

Swimming: By swimming in a pool or in the sea you make sure that the skin meets water. You want to avoid swimming  for the first few days for optimal and long-lasting enjoyment of Henna brows.

Shower: While showering, try not to get your face wet. You could move the shower head, so you don't risk getting your eyebrows wet while showering. For those of us who love to shower very hot. Note that the vapor from the hot water can make your face moist and still cause the brow henna to disappear from the skin faster.

Sauna or Steam Room: You already felt this one coming. Avoid the sauna for the first few days. Because of the heat, your skin will become moisture faster, and you will sweat more than usual. This can cause the brow henna to come off your skin faster.

Intensive sports: A hot yoga workout or a very intense workout is best avoided 24 hours after Henna Brows. With such workouts, you are likely to sweat a lot which is therefore bad for your Henna Brows.

 2. Do not use peels or scrubs after the Henna Brow treatment.

The purpose of a peeling or scrub is to remove the dead skin cells layer. Doing this after Henna Brows can cause you to exfoliate the henna stain from the skin. If the Henna Brows are too dark than desired? Then I really don't recommend exfoliating your skin to lighten the brow henna from the skin. Why? Because this can cause the henna to look patchy on the skin and can make the brows look unnatural. Do not use an exfoliator until the henna stain is off the skin. That's about 2 weeks after the henna treatment.

3. Using facial products.

Henna Brows stays the best on dry skin. That's why it's important to use the right facial products to make sure you get the most out of your fresh Henna Brows.

Cleansing Products: Cleansing products have a strong cleansing effect on the skin. This will cause the tint stain to be rubbed off the skin faster. Therefore, while cleaning the skin, it is important to avoid or gently clean the eyebrows.

Oil-based products: Facial products that are oil-based cause the skin to become oily. Oily products are what you want to avoid the most when you have Henna Brows. Oil-based products cause the brow henna tint to fade from the skin quicker. Therefore, always look carefully at the list of ingredients of your products. Do you naturally have an oily skin type? Then there is a good chance that the brow henna will fade quickly from the skin. This is always a consideration you should make should you like Henna Brows.

One product that has been created is The Nourishing Defense Balm with SPF 30 to protect the skin from external influences after a Henna Brow treatment. The Nourishing Balm protects the skin from free radicals and provides protection from UVA and UVB rays. The SPF protects the brow from sun damage.

4. Avoid sunbathing for the first 24 hours after Henna Brows.

I think this is the most important aftercare tip. Avoid sunbathing the first 24 hours of Henna Brows for two very important reasons. First, when you go under the sun, there is a good chance that the color of the brow henna will change. Second, your eyebrows have recently been waxed or threaded. This means that the skin around the eyebrows is more sensitive. A tanning session can then cause you to have an allergic reaction. This is something you want to avoid at all costs.

Advice for Henna Brow

In addition to the aftercare advice, there are plenty of things you can do before the treatment to make sure the henna result is better.

 1. Do a patch test before the first Henna Brow treatment.

In case you have never had Henna Brows before, it is necessary to do a patch test 48 hours before the treatment to rule out that you are allergic to PPD.

2. Avoid a spray tan at least 1 week before the appointment.

This can cause you to have a different undertone color and the color does not turn as desired on the skin.

3. Use the Prep Peel Gel for a day before the treatment.

The Prep Peel Gel is to remove the dead skin cells layer. This ensures that the henna can penetrate the skin better.
