Working with Virgin Brows: A guide for first-time clients

written byŽaneta Mlčáková

Clean. Untouched. First-timers. That’s what we call Virgin Brows. As a Brow Pro, there’s no greater compliment than a client trusting you with their brows for the very first time. Virgin Brows are sacred territory - and clients who’ve never touched their brows before are often super picky about who gets the honor. So if you’ve had the chance to work on them? That’s your sign you’re doing something right. But to help you do it even better, we’ve created a simple guide to working with virgin brows. Let’s dive in.

What are Virgin Brows?

Ask any Brow Pro about their favorite type of brows to work on, and chances are they’ll say: Virgin Brows. Virgin Brows are eyebrows that have never been shaped, tinted, laminated, or touched by a professional. No waxing, threading, tweezing, dyeing, or (semi-) permanent makeup - ever.

We also like to call them bare brows. They’re in their natural state, often super healthy and full, making them a dream canvas for all Brow Artists. Why? Because you get to shape them completely from scratch - no previous work to correct or undo. Pure freedom!

But with great power comes great responsibility. First-timers with Virgin Brows are usually more cautious and particular, so it’s important to approach them with care, clear communication, and a customized plan that builds trust from the start.

As Mandy from Blush Beauty said "Virgin brows – untouched by any Brow Artist – are secretly my absolute favorite to work on ☁️ I’m honored to transform these beautiful, natural brows into something stunning. Thank you for your trust!"

We all remember our first time - ehm, getting brows done

You won't be tinting Virgin Brows every day, because it's pretty rare. These brows are fresh, untouched, and completely bare. That means the pressure’s on… but so is the potential!

And trust me, I get it.

I still remember the first time I got my brows done. It was at the Eyebrow Festival in Rotterdam, and I was supposed to model for our Henna Masterclass with Chloe. I wasn’t scared at all - just super excited. Chloe had flown all the way from the US and she’s literally the brow queen!

But I do remember one thing I said to her: “Pleaseeee keep it natural.” And if you’ve ever worked with first-timers, you know that’s the number one request - like, 99% of the time.

Before you start tinting:

✔️ Consultation is everything

Take your time to listen. Ask what they love and what they are scared of. First-timers often don’t even know what’s possible, so tell them! Communication and managing expectations are key.

✔️ Mapping & shaping?

Keep it soft! Stick to their natural shape and work with their bone structure. Don’t overpluck or overdefine. You can always go bolder next time - there’s no undoing too much too soon.

✔️ Choose light

Whether you’re using Henna or Liquid Dye, go a shade lighter than you think at first. Your client could experience a Brow Shock. Apply in thin, even layers and check in with your client while it’s processing.

✔️ Patch test

This might be their first time with any tinting product on their face. A simple Patch Test behind the ear or on the arm 48 hours before will keep everyone safe and stress-free.

✔️ Educate

Teach them how to maintain their brows, when to rebook, and aftercare. When they see you care beyond the service, they’ll become loyal (because the tint stays!)

✔️ Stay calm and confident

You’re setting the tone for every future brow appointment they’ll ever have (even if not with you). If you’re confident and kind, they’ll remember how you made them feel more than anything and choose you for their next appointment. Loyalty is not only in the outcome, but also the way you treat them from the moment they step in.

We love this reel from @dream.browbar about Virgin Brows:

"You’re not just shaping brows, you’re creating their first brow experience."

How to tint Virgin Brows?

Working with untouched brows? Lucky you! How to tint them using Supercilium products? Here's how:

Brow Henna + Virgin Brows

Start soft - go one shade lighter. Brow Henna is bold, long-lasting, and super defined. But for someone who’s never had their brows done before, it can feel a little too dramatic. It can be a big difference to bare brows.

Pro tips:

→ Use one shade lighter than you'd normally use.

→ Explain that the skin stain fades a little in the first few days. Henna lasts up to 11 days on the skin and 6 weeks on the brow hairs.

→ Always show a preview of the brow map before starting. Game-changer with first-time clients. If they wish for less definition, opt for ombré brows.

Liquid Dye + Virgin Brows

The perfect choice for first-timers. Liquid Dye gives a more natural, polished look - just soft, even color. Perfect for scared clients of going too bold. And with keratin in the formula, it feels more like a nourishing treatment than a tint.

Pro tip:

→ Great for clients who want a subtle brow look.

→ Gently stains the skin for up to 11 days and tints hairs up to 6 weeks.

→ Feels safe, healthy, and comfortable - exactly what first-timers want.

Brow Lamination + Virgin Brows

Try a ‘Baby Lamination’ first. Full Brow Lamination can be a big change. Ease them in with a baby version: a light lift that enhances the brows without going too bold! Read more here about Baby Lamination.

Pro tip:

→ Keep the styling soft - offer Baby Brow Lamination.

→ Show your client before & after images of what you can do.

→ Talk them through each step so they feel in control.

Combo: Lamination + Liquid Dye

For the most natural yet polished look. This duo gives structure (lamination) and soft color (Liquid Dye) without the intensity of Brow Henna. Still, it's for the brave first-timers.

Pro tip:

→ Always laminate before you tint.

→ Explain the benefits of combining both: fuller shape + flawless color.

→ Explain how Nourishing Elixir 3 actually helps the tint not absorb too much, so it will be even more gentle if combined.
