Henna Brows: Before & After results
Before we start showing you the beautiful before and after photos of Henna brows. Let's talk about the 7 most frequently asked questions about Brow Henna.
1. HOW IS BROW HENNA DIFFERENT FROM REGULAR DYE?
One of the main differences is the chemical components in henna vs regular eyebrow tint. The percentage of PPD (the component in most colorants to enhance the pigment and provide lasting results) is entirely different. Henna brows come in a jar and have a powder formula. Regular eyebrow tint often comes in a tube and has a bit of a paste formula. Also regular dye uses a peroxide oxidant to activate the color. For Brow Henna you use the Color Developer to create the right consistency.
Important note: Having beautiful eyebrows is nice, but make sure it is done in a safe way. Always do a patch test at least 48 hours before treatment to make sure you are not allergic to the PPD in the henna.
However, one of the biggest differences is the stain. Regular eyebrow tinting only sticks to the hairs, whereas; henna sticks to the hair and stain the skin underneath the brows. This advantage of tinting beyond the surface allows for thicker appearing brows and the ability to shape, create symmetry, and give thinner-looking brows a thicker appearance. Therefore, you can create deeper, bolder brows by adding the color and adding dimension and shape with tinting the underlying skin as well. As a result you will have perfect symmetrical and well defined brows.
2. HOW DO HENNA BROWS WORK?
The eyebrow artist will first look at your brows to check if they are suitable for Henna Brows. Next, the brow artist checks which brow shape and thickness best suits your face. The skin is first thoroughly cleansed with Pro Cleanser and preferably also with the Prep Peel Gel to remove dead skin cells. The shape of the eyebrows can be created with the Brow Mapping Paste. After the preparations, the treatment can begin.
Then the henna is applied to the eyebrows by pressing it into the skin with a brush to create a "stamp-like" tattoo effect. Then you wait the appropriate time for the henna to set in, wipe it off with a damp cotton pad and the process is complete! You can always touch up the brows a bit with a brow pencil or pomade for the perfect set of brows.
3. WHAT TYPE OF BROWS DOES HENNA WORK BEST WITH?
Hair type has a big influence on the long-lasting henna results. The most ideal eyebrow type is the eyebrow that already has a good shape with only some sparse areas that need filling. This saves a lot of time in the morning rather than doing your eyebrows every day.
Dry skin is always much better than oily when it comes to henna as the oilier the skin type, the more difficult it is for the henna to stick. If a client has dry skin, it's less likely that the henna will fade from the skin as quickly as oily skin. Also, eyebrows with fine hairs are super suitable for henna.
4. WHAT HENNA COLORS ARE THERE?
Our Supercilium Brow Henna contains 6 different shades including Blonde, Light Brown, Auburn, Medium Brown, Dark Brown, and Black. The Henna dye can be mixed to create even more different colors.
The color Blonde and Light Brown are often applied to clients who have a light skin tone. The colors Medium Brown and Dark Brown are often applied to Mediterranean skins. The Black is mostly used on dark skins or to blend with other colors. The Auburn is a color that mainly gives a warm glow. This can be applied nicely to redheads or mixed with other henna colors to make them warmer. If you want to know more about the henna colors read our blog: Choosing the right henna color for your client.
5. HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
How long the henna stays on varies from person to person based on their skin type, what kind of lifestyle someone has and what kind of facial products someone uses. For someone who swims a lot, is in the sauna, or has a lot of contact with water on their face, the henna probably won't stay on the skin very long. If you use a lot of oil-based facial products, the henna imprint on the skin will disappear sooner. This also applies to people with oily skin. The greasier the skin the faster the henna will leave the skin.
For people with dry skin or normal skin, the henna will often stay on longer than with oily skin. The reason for this is because dry skin absorbs the henna dye better into the skin. This ensures a better print on the skin. Keep in mind that a dry patchy skin can make the henna print on the skin look unnatural and messy. We can't tell you exactly how long henna stays on the skin, since this varies from person to person. Henna stays on the hair for up to 6 weeks and can last up to 2 weeks on the skin.
6. DOES THE HENNA COLOR CHANGE OVER TIME?
The henna color once applied will not change to any other color. Often the Henna Brows are a little darker the first day. This will diminish over the following days. To answer the question as easily as possible, the color can only lighten but will not change in color tone.
7. FOR WHOM IS HENNA NOT SUITABLE?
There are always contraindications to henna. We don’t recommend doing Henna Brows when you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or undergoing IVF. Henna is also not the solution for people who like to have longer-lasting or permanent stains on the skin. The alternative would be choosing permanent eyebrow makeup or microblading since henna doesn’t stay on the skin for longer than 2 weeks. And of course, don't use henna if you are allergic or have sensitive skin.
