What NOT to do after Hybrid Dye with Gabriela Chrobak

Why is aftercare important
"Hybrid dye↗ is amazing for creating a clean, filled-in shadow effect on the skin," Gabriela says. "But the first two days are critical. If your clients don't protect the dye while it settles, the color can fade quickly or become patchy."
Because the treatment continues to lock into the skin and hair long after the client leaves the salon chair, proper education is the key to flawless results.
As a Brow Artist, the service doesn't end when the mirror is handed over (and your client gives a glimpse of a smile). Your client's daily habits, skincare choices, and lifestyle activities directly impact how those pigments oxidize and adhere. When working with a premium liquid tint, the color goes through an active development phase on the skin cells over the first 48 hours. Interrupting this phase means losing that crisp, sharp look prematurely. Let's break down the three non-negotiable rules to share with your clients to ensure maximum longevity and absolute satisfaction.

1. Don't get the brows wet (for at least 24 hours)
This is the golden rule of hybrid brows and lashes. Immediately after a treatment, the dye molecules are still settling into the hair cuticle and skin cells through a chemical process called oxidation. Introducing moisture too early totally stops this process in its tracks and breaks down the tint before it can fully cure.
-
Why it matters: Wetting the treated area within the first 24 hours can cause the dye to fade prematurely. It can also make the skin stain look uneven, streaky, or patchy, completely ruining that beautiful, crisp outline you just spent time creating. High humidity and heavy steam are just as dangerous as direct water splashes because they soften the outer layers of the skin, allowing the pigment to bleed out.
-
The fix: Tell your clients to skip intense gym sessions, hot saunas, pool days, and long, steamy showers for the first 24 to 48 hours. When washing their face, they should completely skip splashing water over their nose and forehead. Instead, advise them to use a washcloth, makeup wipe, or facial sponge to carefully clean around the brows, leaving a completely dry safety zone.
2. Avoid Oil-Based Products Around the Area
If water is a temporary threat during the first day, oil is the permanent enemy of Hybrid Dye↗. Oil acts as a natural solvent, which means it actively dissolves and breaks down the chemical bonds of the tint on both the skin surface and the brow hairs.
-
Why it matters: Using oil-based makeup removers, rich face creams, nourishing facial oils, or greasy sunscreens right on or around the eyebrows will rapidly strip away the skin stain. It causes the color on the brow hairs to slide off, leading to premature fading. For clients with naturally oily skin types, this breakdown happens even faster, meaning external oils must be kept completely away from the brow zone.
-
The fix: Advise your clients to take a close look at their bathroom counter and audit their skincare ingredients. They should temporarily switch out oil-based cleansers, cleansing balms, and heavy moisturizers for oil-free alternatives, like a gentle, water-based micellar water. When applying their evening skincare routine, eye creams, or nighttime serums, they need to be extra careful to leave a noticeable gap around the brow line to prevent product migration while they sleep.
3. Keep Your Hands Off and Skip Strong Exfoliants
It can be super tempting for clients to touch, rub, or constantly brush their fresh new brows in the mirror. However, any form of friction or scrubbing is highly discouraged. This includes both rough physical scrubs and strong chemical skincare ingredients designed to accelerate cell turnover.
-
Why it matters: The beautiful "filled-in" shadow effect of hybrid dye lives entirely on the dead, superficial top layers of the epidermis. Chemical exfoliants (like AHAs, BHAs, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or retinols) and rough physical scrubs are explicitly engineered to speed up skin shedding and peel away dead skin cells. If you exfoliate that skin, the tint lifts right off with it. Constant touching, picking, or aggressive spoolie brushing creates friction that acts as a physical exfoliation, removing the pigment layer by layer.
-
The fix: Remind your clients to keep a strict "hands-off" policy with their new brows. They should also completely pause any strong anti-aging, peeling, or acne products near their forehead and brows for the entire lifecycle of their hybrid tint. Advise them to stick to gentle, hydrating, non-exfoliating products to preserve the skin stain for as long as possible.
