5 Myths About Eyebrows

We’ve all heard strange beauty tips or horror stories from friends, family, or even the internet. A lot of myths about brows and lashes come from personal fears, outdated information, or exaggerated tales that get passed around. For example, a friend might say their brows never grew back after over-plucking in the 90s, or someone might have seen over-curled lashes in a viral video and thought, “That’ll happen to me too!

These misconceptions can stop clients from exploring treatments that could actually boost their confidence and will suit their look so well. That’s where you, as a brow and lash expert, come in! Let’s break these myths down and give clients the real facts about eyebrows and how to care for them.

Myth 1: Brows won’t grow back after over-plucking

Let’s talk about eyebrow growth. Many clients worry that if they pluck too much, their eyebrows will never grow back. While it’s true that over-plucking can damage hair follicles, most brows will grow back with time and proper care! Share examples of clients who used serums and patience to grow fuller brows. Encourage gentle shaping and let them know it’s not the end of the world if they’ve over-plucked in the past.

If your clients have overplucked their brows, offer them Elixir No. 3, which nourishes the brows and can support their growth, or suggest they try serums like castor oil for extra care.

Myth 2: Your eyebrows should match hair color

We definitely can start a debate here. Some clients think their brows must always match their hair. But that’s not true! It’s up to your client what color they wish for! And it’s your job to assess their needs and look to help them find the right shade. People with blue hair also don’t have blue brows, do they?

Sometimes a little contrast looks even better. For example, dark-haired clients can soften their look with lighter brows, and blondes can make a statement with slightly darker brows. Help your clients experiment and find what makes them look and feel amazing. Most important is that you create a look that matches their vibe and unique features. To help you do just that, we launched two new colors of Liquid Dye: super cool and super warm tones! Discover them here and create the best possible shade for your clients.

Myth 3: If someone has permanent makeup, they can’t get semi-permanent treatments

Let’s spend some more time with this one. Because people think this much more than you think! Once they get their brows tattooed, they think they don’t have to step into a salon ever again. But it’s exactly the opposite. To keep their brows vibrant and defined, it’s recommended to get their brows done from time to time.

For example, Brow Henna or Liquid Dye on healed tattooed brows can make a big difference. Or have you seen microbladed brows touched up with Brow Lamination? The results are stunning! Clients with permanent makeup require some extra knowledge on what works best with their brows, but nothing a skilled Brow Artist can’t do, right?

Myth 4: Eyebrows should be twins

We always say it: eyebrows are more like sisters! Sisters can look alike but are never exactly the same as twins. Both my eyebrows have different shapes is something we hear all the time, and it’s completely normal! So don’t stress it. They can’t be identical or perfectly symmetrical! Some people have one brow that’s much more scarred and simply can’t look identical to the other. Others are a bit fuller than the other or are placed a bit higher than the other.

Make sure you break this myth before you start creating brows and be real about the possible results. To make sure you don’t create brows that look unrelated, you can practice Brow Mapping with our Certified Course! Trust us, we all sometimes need some guidelines to create flawless brows. And while brow treatments will help to make them more symmetrical, 100% equal should never be the aim.

Myth 5: Lash Lifts make lashes too curly and fake

Yes, some clients are scared their lashes will look unnatural after a lift, especially those who love a natural look. But as a beauty pro, you know that a Lash Lift is fully customizable. And we offer three different shield sizes to create Lash Lifts ranging from subtle to diva looks!

Lash Lift is simply not like lash extensions. Show your clients different looks with different lash shield sizes and recommend dyeing them too! This way, they don’t have to touch their lashes in the morning or ruin them with mascara. A Lash Lift and Liquid Dye are actually nourishing for their lashes!

Why Brow Care Matters

Proper Brow Care and education prevent over-plucking, thinning, and damage to delicate brow hairs. As a Brow Artist, your job is not just creating a look; you’re also educating your clients on maintaining healthy brows over time. For example, introducing your clients to products like Elixir No. 3 can encourage them to nourish their brows daily, ensuring long-term growth and strength. It's also a good upselling product too!

Teaching them the importance of gentle grooming and regular touch-ups can help dispel the myths they’ve believed for years. When clients realize the power of consistent Brow Care, they’ll trust you more as a professional and appreciate their brows even more! And that's our goal. To empower your beautiful clients in your chair!

Answering Some Frequently Asked Questions

What is the rarest eyebrow shape?

The rarest eyebrow shape is the "flat" shape, which lacks any arch and runs straight across. Can you imagine it? This shape is uncommon but can be tailored beautifully to enhance specific facial features.

Did you know eyebrow facts?

Eyebrows serve more than just aesthetic purposes. They help protect your eyes from sweat and dirt while also playing a key role in facial expressions and communication.

Does plucking eyebrow hair make it grow back thicker?

No, this is a common myth. Plucking does not change the thickness of hair regrowth. The regrown hair might feel coarser initially due to the blunt tip after plucking, but it’s not actually thicker.

What is the psychology behind eyebrows?

Eyebrows are crucial for non-verbal communication. They help convey emotions like surprise, anger, or confusion! Studies also show that well-groomed brows can influence how people perceive you, adding to your overall confidence and approachability. That’s why creating beautiful brows matters!
